Project Description:

Volunteer will construct a new trail that will connect Cimarroncito Peak to the Sawmill Camp to Thunder Ridge Camp Trail. Participants will have a chance to experience all aspects of trail construction, including installing switchbacks and rock wall construction. Amazing views are available at the work site!

This trip is hosted and crew led by Boys Scouts of America.

Area and Attractions:Philmont Scout Ranch is rich in natural beauty, including the soaring Tooth of Time, the sunrises from lofty Mount Waite Phillips, the blue water of Cimarroncito Reservoir, the panoramic sweep of the plains from Urraca Mesa and the sunlight filtering through the aspens along the rippling Rayado. Wildlife is abundant with deer, elk, coyote, antelope, mountain lion, buffalo, beaver, wild turkey, bear, and many others living here. Its cool mountains harbor a wilderness bounty of trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses. Time will be available for side hikes including a chance to hike the Tooth of Time Trail and to visit area museums such as Rayado, Philmont Museum, Villa Philmont, and Chase Ranch.
Accommodations:Primitive Tent Sites
Accommodations Description and Gear Needs:Volunteers will camp in primitive tent sites and should bring their own sleeping bag, pad, eating utensils/bowl, and personal items. Tents and backpacks will be provided. The first and last nights offer indoor accommodations at Philmont, where showers and meals will be provided. Vault toilets will be available during the week. Water filtration is not necessary.
Climate:Beautiful fall weather with abundant sun, golden aspen and dark skies. Average daytime temperatures will range from 60-80 degrees and night time temperatures will range from 30-40 degrees.
