Project Description:

The trails of Big South Fork River and Recreation Area need your help!  Volunteers will perform new trail construction on the Sheltowee Trace Trail, the longest trail in the park. With 16 miles of trail to be built, the new portion of the trail will begin at the Burnt Mill Trailhead, follow along the river and end at Peters Bridge.

Area and Attractions:Encompassing 125,000 acres of the Cumberland Plateau, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area protects the free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries. The park offers almost 400 miles of hiking and multi-use trails. The area is home to several arches, beautiful overlooks, wildflowers, and geological wonders. April is the beginning of wildflower season and the park has it's share of flowering plants and shrubs. The park is home to the Twin Arches, considered to be the largest arches east of the Mississippi.
Accommodations:Car Camping Tent Sites
Accommodations Description and Gear Needs:Volunteers will be staying in car camping tent sites at Bandy Creek Campground. A large tent will be set up for the cooking area, while porta-johns, and picnic tables are provided. Showers will be available during the week. All heavier equipment will be transported to the campsite. Stove, pots and pans will also be provided for the team. Volunteers should bring their own tent, sleeping bag, pad, eating utensils/bowl, and personal items including water filtration system.
Climate:April has warm days with cool to chilly evenings. Thunderstorms are possible with heavy rain and lightening.
